Press release: Some heavy vehicles with tag, will get light vehicle price from 04.04.16

This new rule comes into force on Monday 4th of April 2016 and applies to all vehicles over 3,500kg registered with the vehicle category M1.

Vechile category M1 includes vehicles used for passenger transport with a maximum of eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat. Most camping vehicles and other larger cars for personal use are included in this vehicle group.

In order for vehicles over 3,500 kg with category M1 to receive the same rate as vehicles under 3500 kg, the requirement is an electronic tag with a valid agreement.

Norwegian cars with AutoPASS tag
If you have a Norwegian vehicle, which already has a AutoPASS tag with a valid agreement, you do not have to do anything. The AutoPASS system will automatically changes all existing agreements, so that vehicles over 3,500 kg belonging to vehicle category M1 get light vehicle price when they pass through the toll plazas as of 4th of April.

Foreign-registered cars with AutoPASS tag
If you have a foreign registered vehicle over 3,500 kg in vehicle category M1, and already have a AutoPASS tag with a valid agreement, you must call your toll tag issuer to change the agreement so that you will get the light vehicle price. In addition, you must submit documentation to show that the vehicle belongs to vehicle category M1.

If you have other types of EasyGO tags
If you have a vehicle over 3,500 kg in vehicle category M1, which uses EasyGo tags in stead of AutoPASS tags, you must contact your tag issuer to change your agreement so that you can get light vehicle price when passing the Norwegian toll plazas.

Time differentiated toll starts on February 1

Time differentiated toll or Congestion charge means that there are higher rates at rush hour than the rest of the day.

The introduction of congestion charge starts on February 1, 2016.

Light-weight vehicles
45 NOK: Monday to Friday during rush hour at 6:30 to 9:00 and 14:30 to 16:30
19 NOK: Monday to Friday outside rush hour and Saturday – Sunday
Heavy vehicles
90 NOK: Monday to Friday during rush hour at 6:30 to 9:00 and 14:30 to 16:30
38 NOK: Monday to Friday outside rush hour and Saturday – Sunday

The main objective of the time differentiation is to reduce car traffic in periods of densely traffic and major congestion problems. A reduction of traffic in the morning and afternoon rush hours can reduce emissions and thereby improve air quality.

Mandatory tag for heavy vehicles in 2015

In October 2014 the Norwegian Council adopted a regulation on mandatory tag for heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons. The regulation comes into force on 1th of  January 2015.

This requirement applies to all traffic by both Norwegian and foreign industrial vehicles (with a permitted total weight over 3,500 kg) on the entire Norwegian public road network. This requirement is aimed at heavy vehicles registered to corporations, state, county or municipal or otherwise mainly used in business activity.

Tractors and motorized equipment and is not included in the injunction. The same applies for a number of defense vehicles and certain groups of NATO vehicles.

Norwegian Public Roads Administration, police and customs officials will verify the use of mandatory a tag in heavy vehicles.

Regulations concerning requirements for use of electronic payment device (tag) also includes terms of administrative penalties for violations of the requirement to use a tag. In case of violation, the authorities may impose a fee of NOK 8,000, which can be doubled by repetition.

Change of AutoPASS local agreements

From June 2014 it will no longer be possible to reserve the tag against use in other toll systems.

Earlier one could subscribe to a local agreement and block the use in other toll systems, but this feature expires.

From June 2014, the tag will operate in all AutoPASS and EasyGO toll systems
